A Fairy Godmother Surprised By Her Children’s Book Success

Without a doubt, it is Madonna’s music that kept her on the Forbes list of “The World’s Highest Paid Entertainers” for a dozen years. In one year alone, Madonna makes an estimated $43 million.

The queen of re-invention, now in her mid-forties, is tapping into a younger audience by teaming with the likes of Britney Spears.

As far as movies are concerned, Madonna made $80,000 for “Desperately Seeking Susan,” her first film, and $1 million for “Evita,” her most critically-acclaimed big-screen effort. But she is not giving up on movies just yet.

She says, “There are so many things I want to do, producing films. I would like to make another musical film.”

But it is the success of her latest venture, her children’s books, which shocked even Madonna. Published in 110 countries, in 37 different languages, “The English Roses” and her latest “Mr. Peabody’s Apples” are bona-fide hits.

Madonna says, “To be a published writer for me is huge. It is just a huge accomplishment for me.”

And the most rewarding part of this for Madonna is that all the profits are going to a children’s learning foundation. She says, “I thought that it was time for me to do something without expecting any kind of monetary reward. I’ve been incredibly liberated.”

Madonna is adding a merchandise line based on characters from “The English Roses,” including dolls, clothing, and other kid accessories. And look for an animated version of the book, too. She says, “I’m going to make a film of “The English Roses.” I’m going to be the fairy godmother.”
