Above & Beyond Remix Madonna – Again!
Madonna described the Above & Beyond remix of “What It Feels Like For A Girl” as “completely perfect” then played hard to get for the next two years, before finally enlisting Above & Beyond’s services again on her forthcoming single “Nobody Knows Me“.
The new remix demonstrates a slighty darker and more progressive side of Above & Beyond’s production instincts, but is nevertheless destined to be a serious floorfiller in the coming months.
Above & Beyond have become one of the world’s most respected production teams, known particularly for their peerless take on vocal trance.
They formed in 1999 when Anjunabeats founders Jono Grant (left, Wales and England)) and Paavo Siljamaki (right, Finland) teamed up with Tony McGuinness (centre, Ireland and England) originally just to complete a Chakra remix commissioned by WEA.
The mix, quickly supported by Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold and many others, has become a club classic and immediately put Above & Beyond top of the list for trance remixes.
Mixes for Aurora, Fragma and Delerium quickly followed and the success of these mixes put the boys in contention for a spec mix for Madonna in late 2000. Their mix of “What It Feels Like For a Girl” was such a hit in the Madonna camp that it produced the reaction “probably the best remix I have ever heard” from her management, and a request for another version to shoot the video to from Madonna and husband/director Guy Ritchie
