Britney In as Kittens Get Push
Britney Spears has elbowed Britain’s top girl band off the bill at the UK’s No1 gay club.
The Princess Of Pop has told organisers of G.A.Y. she will jet in to perform her new single at their London night next month.
And that means Atomic Kitten will be dropped from the evening’s bill at The Astoria.
Promoters are secretly hoping Britney’s pal Madonna will join her on stage and recreate the girl-on-girl kiss that wowed the MTV Awards last month.
Britney’s rare appearance means an embarrassing climbdown for Atomic Kitten.
The trio were supposed to be kick-starting the live promotion of their new single and second album on the same night – November 8.
But in light of Britney’s offer, bosses at the venue have had to call the girls and say: “Thanks, but no thanks.”
An insider at the club told me last night: “There’s no contest, really. If you are a venue and Britney Spears says she wants to perform, you clear the schedule.”
Club organisers say Britney’s date may still be subject to change.
The Kittens’ management have offered the girl band as a support act but Britney has not responded to the suggestion.
The venue is a favourite for big names. Chrtistina Aguilera performed there in February.
Britney is arriving in the UK at the end of the month to promote her new single Me Against The Music – the first release from her forthcoming album In The Zone.
She will then go back to the US before returning especially for the G.A.Y. show.
Madonna sings backing vocals on the track and appears in the video – adding fuel to rumours she will join Britney on stage.
