Controversial Roses – Caresse’s strong letter
Joe Queenan from the Wall Street Journal published a satirical article on the forthcoming Madonna book, The English Roses. He made inappropriate and vulgar jokes about Madonna as a writer and about her children such as “Rocco Has Six Mothers and at Least as Many Fathers” and “What Kind of Name Is Lourdes?“. In an unprecedented move, Caresse Henry, Madonna’s manager wrote a strong accusing letter to the Wall Street Journal replying to Queenan. This is what she wrote:
This is a beautiful project that will raise millions of dollars for children’s charities. What is Mr. Queenan doing to make the world a better place? Putting negative and slanderous comments out there about Madonna as a person or about her children – is that what he has to do in order to reach the masses and garner some attention of his own? He should be working for the National Enquirer, not The Wall Street Journal. Actually, the National Enquirer may be too good for him.
