James Foley speaks about Madonna
James Foley, who directed Madonna in her Who’s Tha Girl movie and Sean Pean in At Close Range, the film that scored the beautiful Live to tell, mentioned Madonna in an interview to Italian Magazine “Il venerdi di Repubblica.
In his latest film, Confidence, Foley uses Madonna’s Erotica in the soundtrack and admits he adores her. Foley also admits he went mad for how the Us media treated Madonna for her Mtv Kiss.
“Madonna is above all other Hollywood stars“, says Foley, “she knows how the media work”
Foley explains Madonna’s bad luck with movies by saying that it’s not a question of having talent as an actress or not, but the problem is that she is Madonna, a woman with a personality so huge than can’t be compressed into roles of small characters.
“That’s why Evita is her best cinematic performance, playing a woman that ruled a country.
In her latest film, Swept Away, her character was inferior to what she could give and express. That’s why it didn’t work.”
Foley also directed some famous Madonna videos such as
True Blue, Live to tell and the controversial Papa Don’t Preach.
