From the Liz Smith column
From the Liz Smith column on the New York Post:
Next year will also see a Broadway revival of “La Cage” and a new production of “Mrs. Santa Claus” on London’s West End. So you must think Jerry is pleased as punch. He is . . . but . . . he wants very much to see his classic “Mame” done right on film (the Lucille Ball version just didn’t cut it).
Cher, the one and only was supposed to portray madcap Mame Dennis in a TV spectacular, but then she started her Farewell Tour and has been raking in millions for the past two years. We’ve suggested Liza Minnelli, who’d be great too.
What has to happen here – Madonna as Mame? (Although at 45 she ain’t too young for the role.) Maybe with Deborah Harry as Mame’s “bosom buddy” Vera Charles?
