Madonna to be Honored in Manila
The 2003 Pride International Film Festival will take place November 5-9, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and at the Ayala Greenbelt Theater, both in Manila.
A highlight of the festival will be the presentation of the “Judy” award to the material girl herself on closing night.
The “Judy” award, named after Judy Garland, is presented to “the most influential woman in the entertainment industry“. Festival organizers describe Madonna as “an Icon of the diverse GLBT communities all over the world“.
No kidding.
Another honoree, Sir Ian Mckellan, will be presented with the “Lifetime Achievement and Distinction” award, for his “unending advocacy for gay rights.”
The mission of the 2003 Pride International Film Festival (PIFF) is to help advocate HIV/AIDS education on awareness, prevention and care through films and other events.
Part of the proceeds of the festival will be donated to a local non-profit organization fighting for HIV/AIDS prevention and control in the Philippines.
