MadonnaTribe celebrates the First Album’s 20th Anniversary
“Faster than the speeding light she’s flying, trying to remember where it all began…”
Madonna Tribe wants to open the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Madonna’s first album with these lyrics from “Ray of light“. It actually all began today, 20 years ago, when an 8 track album simply called MAD0NNA, was released by Sire Records after two succesful maxi singles (Everybody and Burning up) that were huge hits in New York dance clubs.
The album which was originally to be named “Lucky Star“, like one of the singles, soon became a self titled album.
Listening to that record today, you notice that some of the tracks are way to long and extended for an album, but the freshness of young Madonna Ciccone‘s voice and style is still intact.
You can feel in her voice that this album was her dream coming true, the goal she had in mind when she was struggling in New York for years.
Recently Time Out New York magazine, compiled a list of the 100 albums that better reflect the spirit and culture of New York City and Madonna’s first album, produced by Djs from the New York scene like Mark Kamins, Jellybean Benitez and Reggie Lucas, found it’s place in the prestigious list.
To celebrate the event, Madonna Tribe, has put together a series of 8 HQ wall papers that you can find in the the Tribe Papers Section.
