Madonna’s Frozen in Chris Cunningham DVD
The Work Of Director Chris Cunningham, a DVD featuring a collection of videos, short films and commercials from the acclaimed director of “Frozen” will be released by Wea Corp. on October 28 in the US (Region 1 NTSC DVD) and November 17 in the UK (Region 2 PAL DVD).
Chris Cunningham is one of the most innovative music video directors in the field.
Born in the UK, he started as a comic book artist for the UK weekly 2000 A.D. under the name Chris Halls.
Combining a passion for special effects (he built a robot for the Judge Dredd movie, picked-up an Oscar nomination for special effects in Alien 3, worked on Alien: Resurrection and also worked for over a year on the film AI: Artificial Intelligence when it was a Stanley Kubrick project), electronica, and a dark sense of humor, Cunningham has infiltrated the underground and the mainstream with his state-of-the-art video techniques.
Included on this compilation are his amazing, grotesque and groundbreaking videos for Aphex Twin (“Come to Daddy”, “Windowlicker” and “Monkey Drummer”), Madonna (“Frozen“), Bjork (“All Is Full Of Love”), Portishead (“Only You”), Leftfield (“Afrika Shox”) and Squarepusher (“Come On My Selector”).
Additional features include behind the scenes material, short films, commercials, as well as work Cunningham submitted to the highly lauded “Flex” exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art in London, containing original music by Aphex Twin.
Madonna Tribe reported about this release last August, along with Cunningham‘s personal views on the shooting of the Frozen video:
“I had a bad experience when I did “Frozen,” said Cunningham.
“I was so excited to finally have some money to do a video, then I ended up out in the desert and there was a monsoon: the equipment got rained on, the cameras broke down and I ended up having to just shoot her running around with a cloak and hope for the best in the edit room.
I couldn’t get out of bed for about a month afterward.”
