US magazine went behind the scenes of the Gap Ad.
It’s about a series of three TV spots that debut July 30, in which Missy Elliot raps to a remix of Madonna’s “Into the Groove” and “Hollywood”. Billboards will crop up in California and New York.
Gap courted Madonna and Elliot for six weeks, promising a ‘not too serious or
slick’ ad, says creative director Try Laird. ( Insider tidbit: The duo hadn’t met before – they’d worked on a remix of Madonna’s “American Life” over the phone.)
Over the three-day shoot, “they had great chemistry and incredible energy“, says Laird. “They’re huge of fans of each other’s. When the camera went on, it was magic.”
Madonna’s kids, Lourdes, 6 and Rocco, 2, visited the set. And after shooting wrapped, Elliott “went on a little shopping spree,” Laird tells US. ” She left with her arms full!”
