Oprah gives away a watch given to her by Madonna on her show today
Monroe – Flor Kohler, like many others waited for quite some time to get tickets to the Oprah Winfrey show. So when she received them, she felt lucky. Boy, was she ever.
She was part of the studio audience at what Oprah calls her favorite show. The show taped Monday, Nov. 17 is scheduled to be aired today, Nov. 24.
Oprah does this “favorite show” once a year. During it, she gives away her “favorite things” to members of the studio audience. This year’s audience walked away with a combined $1.5 million worth of prizes. Each studio audience member alone, including Kohler, left the set with $4,000 to $5,000 worth of merchandise.
“We had no idea what the show was about,” Kohler said. “First they said the show would be about people who beat the odds. Then Oprah came out and asked, ‘Do you ever say to yourself, ‘I’ve never won anything in my life?’ Guess what, this is the day you have won.'”
Kohler’s prizes including a DVD camera recorder valued at $1,000, a laptop DVD player worth $450; a watch given to Oprah by Madonna valued at $500; a silver and diamond necklace worth $150; and cashmere sweaters, jeans, a gift certificate for different chocolate cakes and a gift certificate for a turkey, which she will use this Thanksgiving. “It’s a smoked turkey, already cooked,” Kohler said. “All I have to do is defrost it and eat it.”
Kohler said when the audience learned their fortune, everyone started acting like children.
“We were so excited, we were all screaming and crying. It was all a surprise,” she said.
Oprah‘s said their response, seeing grown-ups act like kids, is her favorite thing about the show.
Kohler said she has yet to open all her gifts but has tried out the laptop DVD player, which she described as “really cool.”
