Swept Away Sequel….well sort of
Lina Wertumuller, the director of the original version of Swept Away, is preparing a sequel to her original film. Both original actors Giancarlo Giannini (father of Adriano) and Mariangela Melato agreed to reprise their roles in this sequel, in which they meet again many years after the adventure on the Island. A romance between the two main characters’ respective son and daughter may also be part of the story. Wertmuller, now candidly admits that even if she never saw the Ritchie’s remake, she probably made a mistake by giving away the rights of swept away to Madonna and Guy.
Speaking about Madonna she now says: “It’s such a pitty, she’s so talented and clever. Probably her husband, Guy Ritchie, wasn’t up to the situation. But love is blind. Very few people went to see that movie, and I was the first one to stay away from it. I didn’t want to suffer”.
Wertmuller was not very kind speaking about a film she did not even see, but a jealous Mariangela Melato added that she’s more beautiful and sexier than Madonna in the original film, and that Mrs Ritchie has no sex appeal at all.
Probably Mrs Melato never heard about a video called “Justify my love“.
