Madonna‘s literary debut, The English Roses, has become the fastest-selling children’s picture book of all time.
It sold more than 10,000 copies in the UK in its first week alone, according to publishers, Puffin.
And, in the children’s best-seller list, it is second only to the fifth Harry Potter – selling just 220 copies less than JK Rowling’s book in its first seven days.
The English Roses was released simultaneously in 100 countries on September 15. It is the first of five tales the singer has written for children. All are loosely based on the teachings of Kabbalah, the religion she and her husband Guy Ritchie follow.
A spokesman for Waterstone’s said: “The English Roses is performing beyond all expectations. It is selling incredibly well.“
And a spokesman for bookseller Ottakar’s said: “In terms of sales, the book is second only to David Beckham’s.”
