2004 or 1984 ???
The calendar may say 2004, but out on the summer concert trail, it’s 1984 all over again.Judging from early sales, this summer’s most anticipated tours will come from the biggest one-named stars of two decades ago – Madonna, Prince and Morrissey. All three will be dusting off their classic 1984 material and mixing it in with their new stuff.Madonna’s re-INVENTION tour will feature a new spin on hits from throughout her career – building on what most people liked from her previous Drowned World tour – the new interpretations of “La Isla Bonita” and “Holiday.” The idea has been such a success that Madonna has already sold out eight shows in the New York metro area, six at Madison Square Garden in June and two at New Jersey’s Continental Airlines Arena in July.Prince will bring his Musicology tour to the area for six shows in July – three at the Garden, two at Continental and one at Nassau Coliseum. Though Musicology will feature material from his new CD of the same name, The Purple One says he’ll play many of his hits for the last time on tour. And, last but not least, there is Morrissey, who was leading the British college-rock sensation the Smiths in 1984. After a seven-year hiatus, the singer is back with an upcoming new album, “You Are the Quarry,” and his tour has already sold out five nights at the Apollo Theatre. He will return later this summer as one of the headliners of the latest Lollapalooza package tour. Source: www.newsday.com
