Madonna‘s miniature book auctioned yesterday to raise money for the 999 Club – a homeless charity in Deptford – fetched £8,500.
Madonna wrote the lyrics to her song American Life and drew the US flag on the miniature, while the higly anticipated world’s smallest Harry Potter book by J. K. Rowling, measuring just one inch high, was the third most expensive lot, selling for £11,000.
The highest bid was for boxing legend Muhammad Ali, who drew a sketch of himself fighting arch-rival Joe Frazier, fetching £17,000. As Ali suffers from Parkinson’s disease, the magazine prepared a special six-inch version of the book to make it easier for him to illustrate.
The auction, hosted last night by Tatler at Sotheby’s in London, raised a total of £125,000, all going towards 999’s valuable work in South East London.
