A chart topping opera star inspiration
She’s officially Britain’s fastest-selling opera singer. At just 23, Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins has topped the classical charts, beating the likes of Lesley Garrett and Luciano Pavarotti with her debut album.
It’s no wonder the 23-year-old former music teacher is finding her new-found fame a little difficult to believe.
“One of my ambitions has always been to get to No.1 in the classical charts and I can’t believe I’ve done it. I’m overwhelmed.
Although classically-trained, Katherine is a fan of pop music, particularly Justin Timberlake and Beyonce.
“My first idol was Madonna because I loved that song Material Girl and I still respect her as someone who won’t do anything she doesn’t want to. When I got my record deal, I said to myself I’d never be pushed into anything I didn’t feel comfortable with.”
