A tour Experience from our forums
Here’s a review of the Uk shows from MadonnaTribe’s forum where our friend and community member jghastings shared his views with fellow fans.
“I’m just back from Wembley after the first of Madonna’s four concerts there, and it was utterly the best concert I have ever been to. I had already seen both Earls Court dates, and in 2001 I was upgraded to the front row for DWT, so tonight had to be pretty special to eclipse those. It was.
I was in Row 5 of Block A2, sitting with my best friend Zoe right by the A2/A3 aisle, and it was just amazing. In front of me were two of the sweetest guys you will ever meet (one from South Africa, whilst his boyfriend was London-based but also of SA origin I think), and the four of us had such a blast. The atmosphere before the show was electric, and once Madonna was on it just got better and better and better and better.
The arena was hot. Very hot. We got a “fucking hell it’s hot in here” from Madonna during Burning Up, and after Material Girl she looked seriously overheated and uncomfortable. However, a couple of minutes later I could feel a cool draft on my neck, so I think they turned the air conditioning back on. Thereafter she looked a lot happier, and by the end was so relaxed she was making us all piss ourselves.
So, a rundown. It was all standard RIT for most of the first half, but as she relaxed and we all cooled down a bit the atmosphere started to get amazing. Don’t Tell Me was incredible, particularly the end bit where she had some banter with the crowd, and Like A Prayer was just the best thing ever. EVER!!! The kilt section was the best though, as she was so into it she totally screwed up the American Life reprise after her amusing chat with the audience (“I’ve lost my objectivity”), at which point she collapsed onto the stage laughing her head off and making us all do the same. Then she just kept screwing little things up and getting the giggles, and I expect only those in the first few rows or watching the screens closely could tell.
It was all just so enjoyable, so personable, so electric, so amazing and, well, there aren’t enough words.”
