And there was evening, and there was morning, one day
“She is observing Shabbat on Friday evenings”.
That’s what Liz Rosemberg tells to the New York Post about the relationship between the re-Invention tour schedule and Madonna’s studies of the Kabbalah.
A few discussions have been brought up recently, starting from the fact that several shows of the upcoming tour are actually scheduled on Saturdays, which apparently contradicted the general knowledge of the Shabbat.
Here’s MadonnaTribe small contribution to the matter, also thanks to the discussion brought up in our fTribe Forums:
The Sabbath (or Shabbat, as it is called in Hebrew) is one of the best known and least understood of all Jewish observances. It is primarily a day of rest and spiritual enrichment. The word “Shabbat” comes from the root Shin-Bet-Tav, meaning to cease, to end, or to rest.
Shabbat, like all Jewish days, begins at sunset (when stars appear), because the story of creation in Genesis says, “And there was evening, and there was morning, one day.” From this, a day begins with evening, that is, sunset. So Shabbat then goes out on Saturday evening, “when stars appear again“.
