Band Aid video reaches millions
After weeks and weeks of hype, the video for Band Aid 20‘s version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” was finally shown on TV last night, and the Sun and the Mirror fall over each other to tell us that 20 million people tuned in, which is understandable since it was screened on BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, CBBC, ITV, C4, Five, all 12 MTV channels, Sky One, Sky Sports, Sky Mix, Sky Travel, The Amp, Flaunt, The Box, Kiss, Magic, Kerrang and Q.
There was no bleedin’ escape!
At 5.55pm, at least 30 channels had Madonna on their screens as she introduced that song, sung by whipper-snappers too young to remember the original 1984 hit.
“This is unprecedented. I’ve never known it even for a royal occasion, like the Queen’s Speech, to be shown on all channels like that. We have to make sure that as many people as possible buy the single and I can’t think of a better way of doing that,” said a Band Aid spokesman.” The charity single is expected make the Top Five, at the very least.
