Breaking News – Laura, Rick and Madonna
“Somebody can read these lyrics as a dedication to the beloved person, indeed, I’m talking about the inner peace I’m searching for.
On the contrary, I’m talking to it as a real person. Madonna let me feeling free to sing the lyrics I preferred, without being compelled to follow the literal translation, necessarily. So, during the work of adaptation, I changed some parts, but I left the english refrain for metrics reasons”
This is how italian singer Laura Pausini describes on her official website the spirit of her collaboration with Madonna on “Mi abbandono a te” – from her new album “Resta in ascolto”. The song features music by Rick Nowels, who was asked to re-create a sound similar to the one of Madonna’s “The Power of Good-bye”. According to the italian newspaper “Il Corriere della Sera”, the song is a “Hymn to Peace” and Nowels was asked to keep the arrangement to a minimum to express a sense of peace and quiet.
An interesting bit of news reports that the song originally talked about a flower. Our reader Ivo came up with this smart comparison between some of the lyrics of the new song – made available to the italian press today – and the unreleased Madonna/Nowels production “Like A Flower”.
Se è la vita che dai / There’s a hole in my heart
A chi ti chiede aiuto / No one else can fill it
Se il pensiero che hai / There’s a feeling I have
E’ già concreto in me / No one can replace
La preghiera che fai / There’s a taste in my mouth
E’ il credo che ho cercato / No one else can give me
Un sapore che ormai / There’s a song that I hear
Io non baciavo più / No one can erase
A remix of Laura Pausini’s hit “”Entre Tu y Mil Mares” appeared in 2001 on the Maverick Records compilation “pLATINum rhythm” – which also contained the then-unrelaeased Robbie Rivera Remix of Madonna’s “Music”.
