Could The Corrs be getting set to provide some Summer Sunshine-filled pop – for Madonna at Slane Castle this August?
That’s the question on the lips of fans of the stunning sister and brother act and the US Queen Of Pop.
Intense speculation about the chances of Andrea, Sharon, Caroline and Jim popping up on the bill at Madonna’s live Irish debut show was sparked off in the Far East last month.
Internet fan sites for both Madonna and The Corrs seized upon a news story from an Asian television station.
According a Channel V report, the US singing superstar said that she wanted the Irish chart-toppers to appear as her special guests at Slane, on August 29.
Adding to the mystery, a spokesman for the promoters of Madonna‘s Slane show did not seem to completely rule out a live set by The Corrs – saying that had been “no confirmation of this”.
A UK spokeswoman for The Corrs said that the rumour was “not true”. However, no-one from the band or its management could be contacted to establish if an invite from Madonna had been on the table.
The Corrs, who recently enjoyed UK Top Five success with the single, Summer Sunshine and album, Borrowed Heaven, kicked off a north American tour, last Monday.
If The Corrs – who played two shows at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena last June – were to consider a Slane slot, then shows in Boston and Toronto on August 28 and 30 would need to be rescheduled.
If The Corrs-Madonna hook-up was to happen, it would not be the first time that the acts have made sweet music together.
For band lead singer, Andrea, sang with Madonna in the movie version of Evita in 1996.
And The Corrs’ violinist, Sharon – married to Belfast barrister, Gavin Bonner – told Sunday Life in late 2001 that it was one of the band’s remaining ambitions to perform at Slane Castle.
