Dining with Madonna
Madonna was as sweet as a lamb when she arrived at Solo, Manhattan’s new Mediterranean kosher eatery, after her concert last Thursday.
The star, who was there to mark the 31st birthday of Kabbalah Rabbi Michael Berg, dined on Solo’s upscale cuisine, including lamb chops and glazed duck breast.
The restaurant is the brainchild of owner Joey Allaham, who opened Solo on June 10 in the atrium of the Sony building and prides himself on its earthy decor and quiet elegance. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been there.
As for Madonna, she was part of a group of 20 guests, including designer Donna Karan, eating in one of the restaurant’s private rooms. She sat next to her husband, Guy Ritchie, the entire night and, according to the Solo’s rep, was low-maintenance and laid-back.
But, as always, it pays to be the world’s best-known songstress, who showed up around 11:30 p.m. with several bodyguards in tow and stayed until 3 a.m. When Madonna ordered lamb and was told that the restaurant had run out, one of her fellow diners gave her their dish.
Madonna also has frequently dined at Allaham’s Manhattan Kosher steakhouse, Prime Grill.
“I’m able to accommodate her and keep her happy, because she expects a lot,” he says. “I make sure that everything she eats is the best she’s ever had.”
Assuming he hasn’t run out of it, that is.
