From cowboy hats to fishnet stockings – even if the fashion was a tad off, the performance certainly wasn’t.Later than advertised but living up to her billing, Her Madgesty finally rocked up after 9.30 last night to titivate and titillate an older, but no less ecstatic crowd in the grounds of Slane Castle.Claims she had failed to sellout were dismissed by promoters MCD who reported a capacity crowd by the time Madonna hit the spotlight with little more than elbow room on offer.Gates to the 100-tonne stage show of light and sound opened after 4pm when DJ Paul Oakenfold appeared to warm up the crowd.Rocker Iggy Pop followed with a noisy scream show, but it was clear the crowd only had one woman on its mind.A torrential rain shower heralded her arrival but stopped on cue as Madonna arrived on stage, via platform, to a rousing Irish welcome and the opening beats of hit song Vogue.Looking older but no less blonde, the talented singer danced energetically to the first song, all the while urging fans to embellish their Irish welcome by helping her remember the words to Material Girl.Slane shone under the moonlight as the Queen of Pop and Rock performed a range of her famous hits including Deeper and Deeper, Frozen, Into the Grove and Die Another Day.Dressed in black hotpants, she jigged and gyrated, thrilling fans with a bountiful display of cleavage, heels and good music.Giving it her all amidst a superbly fit troupe of 12 dancers, a skateboarder, five musicians, and bagpipe player, Madonna cast on and off outfits with the abandon of a woman who never wears the same thing twice.Five costume changes later and the show began to wind down. No arrests were reported. Chief Super Michael Finnegan said: “The capacity crowd have been very well behaved and there have been no arrests since the gates opened. Our traffic management plan resulted in free flowing traffic to and from the site.”Article by: Niamh NolanSource: examiner.ie
