First Glasgow International Piping Festival

The UK’s first music festival dedicated to piping will be launched in Glasgow on Monday.

Piping Hot – the Glasgow International Piping Festival – will take place in August alongside the World Pipe Band Championships.

Organisers say they want to bring forward a broader and more modern showcase of piping.

The profile of the instrument has been helped by Madonna recently signing up pipers for her forthcoming world tour.

Piping Hot hopes to challenge the perception of piping with contemporary and experimental music from established and emerging performers.

The event will include workshops and discussions as well as free performances by a number of the artists in the city’s George Square.
