First Slane Triber’s Review
Our forum member Madonnafied wants to share with fellow Tribers his Tour experience from Slane Castle.
“I have just arrived home to Belfast from the first ever Madonna concert in Ireland, all I can say is amazing, outta this world show, it was a bit different in minor details to other shows, mainly because it was a huge outdoor concert…
First of all, when we were walking through Slane village heading towards the venue at around 3.30pm we could clearly hear Madonna rehearsing ‘Vogue‘ and ‘Nobody Knows me‘ the music stopped after those two songs and the gates were then opened…
The catwalk was there the whole time, it obviously wasn’t lowered as it was an open-air show, but was down much lower than usual at crowd level, as Madonna skimmed many hands on her way through it, the confetti was also there, it didn’t fall from the ceiling but was blown up into the air…
Madonna went back to the gold corset that she’d worn in the USA, she was a bit cold and grabbed a jacket before the lights went on for ‘Deeper and deeper‘.
She said ‘I can’t believe I have finally come to Ireland. J***s Ch***t what took me so fucking long!!!‘ then taking a drink of her water screamed ‘Cheers! and I’ll see all of you in the pub later‘. You could tell she was overwhelmed by the Irish crowds reaction, these weren’t just scripted lines, she couldn’t stop smiling all night, even during the more serious parts of the show…
During ‘Material Girl‘ she didn’t give the usual ‘this is your chance to redeem yourself’ statement, instead she was grinning from ear to ear and said ‘you can do louder‘ and then screamed ‘Excellent!’.
While she was spinning during part of ‘Papa don’t preach‘ she said ‘I’m just trying to keep myself warm‘, to huge cheers and laughs… On came the black t-shirt part, with ‘IRISH do it better‘ across the chest…
During ‘Nothing Fails‘ Madonna was sitting with her guitar at the left hand side, and it started to rain, so a tour guy with headphones on from backstage I take it, ran over and kneeled down and held a big black umbrella over Madonna, she didn’t seem pissed at all, but instead laughed and sang ‘rain, rain, go away’ afterwards…
She was in top form, absolutely pumping with energy, ‘Imagine‘ got a brilliant reception with the sold out 80,000 swaying with lighters, as did ‘Crazy for you‘ where Madonna seemed to be a bit over come by emotion, and instead of kneeling on the lift, she lay flat on her stomach, and seemed truly moved, you couldn’t hear as much of Madonna as you could actually hear of the crowd during this and a few other songs, she gave the ‘I wanna dedicate this to all my fans, who have stuck with me for 20 years, I love you‘ speech before the song…
Madonna was very witty during ‘Holiday‘ where she normally says ‘all my people on the right, sing holiday’ this time it was ‘all my people in the trees, sing holiday, and my people on the hill, sing holiday‘.
As the screens closed with the ‘Reinvent Yourself‘ message, she said ‘thank you, goodnight‘ and then shouted after being lowered through the floor ‘Ireland you’re the best!!!
As ‘Holiday‘ ended a huge display of fireworks began, it was really nice, and very emotional too…
This was for me the best concert I have ever been to, it was my 7th time seeing Madonna live, I was at the 2 Earls Court shows earlier in the month and thought they were good until I went to Slane, which was absolutely amazing, we the crowd, were blown away by Madonna, and Madonna was blown away by the crowd, and for all the dissers of Slane, this would have been the best concert all round to film for the official release, this, in my honest opinion topped the ‘Blond Ambition tour‘ official show, which I thought couldn’t be done…
In another piece of information, there were several cameras flying around, which definately weren’t just for the huge screens there, there were cameras with the big fluffy microphones and a crew there all day, who were filming a lot of the crowd during the whole time Madonna was on stage with a big lamp, who were quite official looking…
For anyone here that didn’t go to this show ‘why not’ lol, you soooooooo missed out on the best single Madonna concert in 14 years…
That’s all I can be bothered writing for now, thanks for reading…
