Four ”A League Of Their Own” Anecdotes
Here’s some interesting anecdotes about Penny Marshall‘s film “A League of Their Own” with Madonna.
1. Debra Winger was originally going to appear in the film as Dottie Hinson, the Geena Davis character, but Winger backed out when Madonna was signed. Director Penny Marshall has maintained, however, that Winger dropped out of the project at the 11th hour because of a contract dispute. Geena Davis was all set to relax before beginning production on the Stephen Frears film Hero when she got the call from Penny Marshall to save the big movie.
2. Moira Kelly was locked in to play the role of Kit, but she hurt her ankle while filming the ice skating movie The Cutting Edge. After appearing in small roles in Cadillac Man (1990) and Point Break (1991), Lori Petty stepped up to the plate as Kit.
3. With the release of the first publicity still for A League of Their Own, it was noted that the whole cast was photographed as a baseball team, with neither Geena Davis, Tom Hanks nor Madonna highlighted. The producers explained that they wanted to emphasize the camaraderie of the cast and the fact the film was an ensemble effort
4. The senior versions of Dottie and Kit are played by Lynn Cartwright and Kathleen Butler, but their voices are dubbed by Geena Davis and Lori Petty.
