George Michael on The MTV Kiss
He is all too aware of the current musical landscape. And he plainly just can’t help himself when it comes to calling a spade a spade.
“I have great respect for Madonna but I was a bit horrified about that MTV thing,” he says, warming to the theme.
“It really smacked to me of ‘Oh dear, my album isn’t selling’, so within six weeks of them working that out, you see her on stage with Missy Elliott and Christina Aguilera and Britney.
“I just thought she didn’t need to do that. I don’t actually think it’s a bad album. It’s ambitious lyrically for her and I quite like it as a producer.
“Even though we are not the same musically, we have similarities in that we really exploited pop video, we started at the same time and we’re just about the only two straightforward pop stars who still try to move forward.
“What was she doing snogging someone half her age with tits a foot higher than her’s? You are Madonna, you don’t need to do this stuff.”
