Here Comes The Sun
There’s nothing trickier than going to a showbiz dinner just days after your lover has insulted the guest of honour. So step forward Elton John‘s partner David Furnish – the most red-faced man at Donatella Versace‘s party for pal Madonna.
Elt sparked a storm at last week’s QAwards when Madge was nominated for Best Live Act and in a foul-mouthed tirade he accused her of miming. So presumably he didn’t fancy showing his face at her party in posh London diner Cipriani on Thursday night – and gave David the job.
Certainly, David looked a little uneasy as he arrived and sat himself on a table as far away as possible from Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie Security at the bash was tight but I sneaked one of my Bizarre team into the dinner – and he reports: “When David arrived you could tell he was quaking in his boots. Elton’s just lucky that he had a sacrificial lamb to send to the slaughter. There was an uncomfortable atmosphere and there were lots of intense stares coming from Madonna’s table.”
Publicly, Madge – who was not at the Q Awards – took Elt’s dig in good spirit and denied miming. She later joked he’d still be on her Christmas card list. And fans who saw the Re-Invention gigs know she sang brilliantly live. She only mimed a few times – such as while doing the yoga crab pose on stage.
And now Rob Jacobs, a Madonna fan and artist at drownedmadonna.com, has penned a brilliant cartoon asking tubby old Elton whether he could sing live while doing the crab. I’ve printed it above so you can all have a laugh.
Also at Donatella’s bash were Liz Herley. Jamelia and George Micheal’s lover Kenny Goss. They all had a great time. As did Madonna – despite the Elton row.
In fact Madge had such a good time she glared at waiting photographers as she left in case they snapped her looking a little worse for wear. Elton had far more important things to do than go to Donatella’s bash. He’s been busy recording with up-and-coming star Lucie Silvas for a BBC performance that will go out later this year.
Lucie’s debut single, What You’re Made Of, was out this week – and it’s really making waves.
