Hints of Madonna’s involvement as spokesperson from NY Post Business article
The city’s Alpha gals have staked out prime territory to dine-and-deal over.
At Lever House, tables are often booked solid a month in advance. While the seven-month-old eatery sits on Park Avenue, it doesn’t cater to Upper East Side socialites.
Unlike the 1980s ladies who lunched leisurely, today’s dominant dames’ chauffeured cars bring them from a boardroom to a Lever House buffet – instead of coming from Bloomies.
But even though these dining dames usually don’t shop before they chomp, expect to see more style in this dining room than elsewhere around town.
Here, pretty power brokers wouldn’t be caught dead sporting a boring business suit.
“I see Prada, Jil Sander and Donna Karan,” said Michael Bailey, Lever House’s maitre d’. Bailey presided over the monied movers and shakers at breakfast a few blocks uptown at rival power restaurant Michael’s which, along with the Four Seasons and the ’21’ Club, compete for the loyalty of executives in media, fashion and finance.
“I was a Four Seasons regular, then I frequented Michael’s,” said Playboy magazine’s Chanel-clad publisher Diane Silberstein.
She’d just lunched with Peter Connolly, president of worldwide marketing and communications for Tommy Hilfiger U.S.A.
“I did a big deal with BMW motorcycles and Messner, their ad agency, here, too,” said Silberstein who’s also been the publisher at Yahoo! Internet Life, The New Yorker and Elle.
“I probably have lunch at the Lever House four days a week,” said Jennie Saunders, a former corporate attorney at the white shoe law firm Cahill Gordon, who’s launching the Core Club, where 100 founding members shelled out $100,000 each.
“Most of my meetings here are with strategic partners,” Saunders said.
“We were talking about Madonna being the spokesperson for Slatkin & Co.’s new line of candles that benefit the Children’s Center at the Kabbalah Center,” said Pamela Gross, editorial director of Avenue magazine, who’d just eaten with Harry Slatkin.
