I’m Outta Love
Anastacia made an emotional comeback with a new album on Saturday, one year after breast cancer surgery saved her life, in a show-stopping performance at the German music industry’s Echo Awards.
The American pop star got long and thunderous applause from a full-house crowd of 4,000 before eight million television viewers for a moving rendition of her song “Heavy on my heart”. Anastacia, 30, had surgery early last year to remove the cancer. Although she won an Echo in 2001, she was not nominated this year but nevertheless stole the show.
In the women’s category, Shania Twain beat Madonna, Dido, Avril Lavigne and Christina Aguilera for top honours.
Robbie Williams won the Echo award for best international male rock/pop artist for a third consecutive year, edging out Justin Timberlake, Seal and Eros Ramazzotti. Evanescence got the Echo for top international rock/pop group.
Pink, who landed on stage inside a giant bird cage, Kylie Minogue, Phil Collins, hip-hop Outkast and Enrique Iglesias were not nominated but added glamour to the 13th annual awards with their performances.
