In his own words… a Triber’s experience in Manchester
Well boys and girls, i finally did it – i got to see the material girl in action, on stage, after a 2 year
wait – and WHAT A SHOW!!!!
as many of you know, i was originally going to slane, not manchester. bit that came to an abrupt halt when
i discovered the ticket company was under investigation and moved out their premises, all without sending me
my tickets – and leaving me 500 quid down. all this was 2 weeks ago.
so since then i was adament to my dad i would buy more slane tickets but he wasnt having any of it, and it
looked like i was going to miss this tour completely.
but last wednesday, my dad asked me how much money i had – i told him, asked why – and he said ‘were off to
manchester!’
there was a slight hitch tho [one of many!] – i had no tickets. no fear my dad said, lets turn up and get
them from outside the arena on the night. obv i was worried that we would go all that way and be disapointed,
so i came to TRIBE and asked what the chances were of people selling tickets. Tonybecks kindly informed me
there would be loads of people selling tickets on the night, leaving me feeling just that little bit excited

so, yesterday – concert day – i woke up at 11, made a Tshirt – ‘kylie minogue and britney too…. MADONNA
RICHIE we LOVE you!!!’ – had a bath, got myself all done up…. and waited for my dad to come home [he spend
friday night at our caravan with the family – i wasnt there cos i was at work friday….] – he got home at 1.15,
and told me the car was making a funny noise, and it couldnt go all the way to manchester – summat to do with
the stearing shaft or summat….. anyway, we lend my grandads car, and at quarter to 2 we was off to manchester!!!
because i was already 500 quid down thru this tour, my dad set a 200 quid limit on tickets for the show –
he reconned 700 quid and only seeing one show was enough to spend on madonna.
we got to manchester at 4:15, which wasnt too bad a time considering we were coming from the north east –
130 miles away! we went to the arndale centre, had tea, and i spent the next 30 min expressing how much i
hate them cows in there – i mean, what is the deal? at 6:15 we went ticket hunting.
and then we hit another hitch, another sign that i just wasnt ment to see this tour, show at all.
‘Please evacuate the building for you own safety’ was ringing thru the arena tannoids. great i though. not only
have i come all this way, spent so much money, theres not summat wrong with the venue. nothing was happening and
i wasnt buying tickets if the show looked like it might not be happening, so me and me dad went for a strole
around the back of the arena back to our car….
we were walking past the back entrance – the entourage entrance – and me and my dad were discussing the thing
being cancelled, or why the place had to be evacuated, when the entrance gate opened. it was no inportance to
us, so we walked by, but my dad pointed to a silver people carrier that had just turned around the corner,
pointed, and said – ‘look its madge!’ – funny thing is tho, i think it was.
my dad was just laughing, not believing it was her, he said it jokingly in passing. but that silver people
carrier turned into the back entrance, when the whole place was being evacuated. it pulled in, and less than
30 seconds later 3 fire engines pulled up, blocking the back entrance, and the view in…. ‘great’ i thought –
its on fire – no concert tonight for me then. but only 1 fireman got out, and went in…. the others just sat
in the 3 fire engines… i went for a look…. then the crowd went up – cameras out, a little shouting – they
seemed to think Madonna had just arrived too!! we all got shifted from the place we could see past the fire
engines and after 5 minutes they went, all 3 of them, and the gate was closed, and the little crowd had gone.
but i went for a little peek, and the people carrier was there, door open, sunroof opened, S reg, and the windows
werent tinted anymore…. the car had a great respemblance to the one she was seen in in america……. maybe it
was her arriving, maybe it wasnt but it added to the day!!
so the engines had gone, people were going back in the arena, so i went ticket hunting agian. at about 7 – i
gave in and got 2 tickets for block 106 [hey – anything better than nothing!] for 150 quid – 50 quid less than
face value. bargin.
so we go to queue up to get in – then we hit another hitch. one of our tickets wouldnt scan on the mans scanner.
we tell him to try using another scanner, which thank god worked! so after all of everthing that happened, i was
AT A MADONNA CONCERT!!!!!!!!!!
well what was a guy to now do at a material girls concert? i went shopping i got me HOMEGIRL Teeshirt for 15
quid, a programme – 20 quid, 2 posters which came to 9 quid – leaving me really happy. i wanted to get the
Material Guy top, but im still just a little too fat for that – if i was a stone lighter i would have got one,
but like they say, for everything else theres mastercard! so ill get it off fanfire soon.
we were in our seats for 7.45, 15 minutes before she was suppose to come on. infact she didnt come on till 8.55.
but the crowd seemed really enthusiastic – the upper tier managed to do a ‘wave’, loads of people were clapping
and chanting ‘madonna! Madonna!’ and really getting into it. i also spied more cameras on the floor than there
should have been…. and the looked like TV cameras from where i was sitting, and professional photographer
cameras.
TBW is a fantastic peice of work – Klein is a fantastic visualist. this MUST be released on the DVD/film DVD
as it is not one for the vault – it was the perfect opening – one of the best i think shes had for a tour.
the crowd loved it, and i was hypnotised, the way it was put together was fantastic.
then Vogue came on, and OMG SHE WAS THERE – right in the middle of the floor, coming up thru the floor OMG OMG
OMG OMG OMG i couldnt believe i was in the same room as her. she did vogue fab – the dancing, the lipsyching,
everything about it was fantastic – but i cant warm to that purpley corset – i prefer the american one. but it
was GLITTERING like mad – it made her look really really glamerous.
NKM was next, and the performance was fantastic, really energetic. but i was disapointed by the crowd around
me – they were just 2 boring!!! they were not standing up for vogue [bar one person infront of me] and were
just not singing NKM – they musnt have bought AL which kinda pissed me off.
you could tell frozen was the first song sung live – it was breath takingly fabulous darling it was really
energetically sung, but almost to the poing of effortless – which elevated the performance for me, as this is
the way i always imagined it to be sung – on the DWT it seems she has to really try to hit the notes and keys,
or maybe that was just the wig and the arms effecting it.
AL is out of this world. ive seen it performed on this tour B4 [download] and heard it being performed [download]
but OMG nothing prepares you for it, nothing at all. the DVD will NOT do it justice, i garentee that now. the
video was fabulous, the costumes [i dont remember seeing nuns and priests before – must of missed that one!]
and the stage attachment – OMG how amazing is that? the speed it dropped from the roof made it look really
really light, and i always imagined it to be really really heavy and take forever to get to the floor. i really
danced, sung and rapped my little heart out to this number, the whole performance was fantastic. the video is a
MUST for the DVD – personally i think its the original before it got edited, and then banned – this version even
had the ‘rumoured’ bloody babies in it, which are not in the banned version. i did however get a few dodgy looks
when i stuck my fingers back up at madonna when she finishes the rap! i found that quite funny.
next was EY, which again got the crowd up and dancing [i hadnt sat down so u know!] – most of the people had
sat down for AL, which pissed me right off, cos its one of my fav madonna songs. EY really got the crowd going
though, especially when she asked manchester if we were ready!! again, i sang and danced my little heart out –
the sweat was haling out of me!!
next was BU and MG – 2 numbers id really been looking forward do because i really really really love them songs.
during burning up she screams ‘ITS FUCKING HOT!!!!!!!’ making the crowd scream. one thing that pissed me off
with the crowd in my block was that they got up and went out to get drinks etc during BU – i mean come on –
yes it wasnt on TIC, but everyone knows BU!! for MG she claimed to need help singing it, and i was more than
happy to ablige, MG is again one of my all time fav songs and i snag my little heart out to it. i was the only
one standing for it tho – i was NOT sitting down at a madonna concert – i was going to dance and it out.
Again, I refused to sit down for Hollywood, which took me by surprise it was not the extravagance I thought it
was going to be. It was good, but I had a mental image of it
and being honest, I prefer my mental image! But it
stands to reason why she didn’t perform it I mean, she cant really top the VMA performance can she?
Hanky Panky was really good, and really fun. It really suited the whole atmosphere Hollywood built up. The
whole performance however reminded me of the BAT one, and I actually got the feeling that Cherish would have
been fantastic in its place, as I think that would have really worked better in the whole carnival thing going
on but I wasn’t disappointed with HP I mean I really love the song and cant believe she still singing it
I really love it!
Next was D&D, another number I really think works in the segment, and I love the new arrangement. BUT I got
mega pissed off. Because I was the only one standing and dancing the best I could to the music and that [the
beat had kicked in], the man in the yellow top came over to me and asked me to SIT DOWN. I was like WTF?????????
This is a Madonna concert, you DANCE! He didn’t care, and told me again to SIT. I was MEGA PISSED OFF. You don’t
sit at a Madonna concert.
He told me again to sit during DAD, which I really really really really wanted to dance to, as I love that
record so much it was my first Madonna single released as a genuine Madonna mad fan. I was not impressed.
Infact, I had to sit down until DTM. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the performances still, but it wasn’t the
same, I was at the same level as those being boring, I needed to dance, sing, scream!!!!
BS04 is AMAZING. The white makes it look so pure, innocent, but above all, fresh after 10 years, and Madonna is
beautiful in it, why couldn’t she have made the same video for NF? It would have totally worked.
NF was fantastic. I remember hearing that song for the first time nearly 18 month ago, and it was really special.
Its still really special and fantastic on stage. I really really loved it. DTM was amazing. I had refused to
download it mixed with the BS symphony and omg it blew me away, so danceable, so unique even, I really enjoyed
it, and noticed the recycled dance moves from the DWT
LAP was something totally out of this world. It really got the crowd going, except my block which REFUSED to
stand when asked. I thought FUCK YOU’, and focused on Madonna, who was really enjoying herself. I never thought
id see LAP live ever in my life, and it was a dream come true for me.
MAF/I was really good too. I remember thinking tho that I didn’t like the back drops for the intervention part,
where the man is trying to get out of a bag/sack didn’t like it much, but the performance was great again I
danced and sung/rapped my heart out I was going to enjoy it even if everyone else wasn’t going to in my block.
I got told to sit for imagine. I was really pissed off at that, but by then I did need a seat, so I sat. I mean,
I no I just said I needed to sit down, but I didn’t want too I wanted to stand the full concert out. Her vocal
performance of Imagine was amazing, it really suits her voice totally. I liked the way the backdrop was done, but
the spirituality for kids’ made me boo I didn’t care, I don’t think that should have been there it was cheap
of Madonna imo.
The bagpiper got some cheers it did! That whole interlude was the one I was looking forward to the most, because
on the audio I have it sounds amazing and really individual to Madonna! No one else could pull it off, I mean if
it was Britney the world would be like WTF?
ITG OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG that was one hell of an energetic and fantastic performance, and had been given a really
good dust down from when she last sang it 14 year ago. The bagpipe, kilts, missy, all make it work, and I really
think it should be released as a single done in the tour style it would have been a better 1st single duet for
Madonna better then MATM.
After all the fuss about PDP not being the full version, I can safely say it didn’t need to be, because the words
weren’t missed at all. The whole performance of it worked, and was really fun, and to be honest I didn’t notice
till after that she never sang the whole song.
CFY again had the crowds going. I took a really fab picture of her in the top left corner, with a light showing
the full crowd on the floor ill post it later cos it looks fab quite distant, but fab. But the pictures always
make u look further away than you really were. I mean, compared to Newcastle arena MEN is small MEN holds more
people but its definitely smaller I was sat near the back and didn’t need to watch the screen, I could see
clearly everything Madonna was doing.
Music was really fun, I really enjoyed it. But nothing will ever top the DWT performance, that for me is THE
music performance. But RIT music was fab, just not as energetic.
HOLIDAY came too soon. The whole concert just flew over completely. I had danced and belted out all the hits
[bar the few I was told to sit during but I still belted them out!] and had tons of energy left. Never fear
I thought, this is the last song, ill make the most of it. I jumped up and down on the spot throughout the full
song. My rosary beads kept hitting me in the face!! I think everyone around me thought I was crazy. I didn’t care,
I was not going back to the car with energy left in me. I didn’t want to go back with a voice, but no matter how
much I screamed, shouted and bellowed HOLIDAY, CELEBRATE!!’ it refused to leave me lolololol.
As soon as I saw the reinvent yourself’ me and my dad took off, to beat the traffic, but I managed to get a
bit
of the confetti still!!
So after all that we had to drive 130 miles home but OMG it was worth it. I would so do it again 2nite, but my
dad couldn’t hack it, he broke his back 20 year ago and it was killing him yesterday. But he enjoyed it he
said he never expected to, but he really enjoyed it. He didn’t stand up, because his back was hurting him from
the 2 ½ hour drive to Manchester, and the 1 hour drive home from the caravan, so I excused his lack of dancing
because of that, and the fact he took me to Manchester.
So
marks out of 10? I say 9 ½ WHY??? I hear you ask. Because it went by too fast for my liking, and this is the
type of show you NEED to see more than once to appreciate it full [as in the dancing, performance, screens]. And
I cant go again, so im giving it a 9 ½ – sing more songs next time Madonna make it last longer for us!!!!!!
