It Takes Two To Tango
A latin dance supremo who tangoed with Madonna headlines a Llangollen International Eisteddfod concert this year.
Myriam Ojeda Patino danced with the pop superstar in the hit film Evita.
On Thursday July 6 she will take her Romance D’ Tango experience to the pavilion for the Eisteddfod’s evening concert.
Formed in 1994 by Myriam, the Colombian-born artistic director, artLAT is one of London’s leading Latin American dance companies.
Speaking yesterday, 33-year-old Myriam said: “This is the first time I have been to the festival and I know the story how it came about after the World War to promote peace through music and dance.
“I have been to Wales before. It is a beautiful country, very green and very wet, and we are really looking forward to the festival.
“Madonna was part of the group of dancers for one of the London shots. She came in for the takes at the last moment. She was very nice.”
An International Eisteddfod spokesman said: “Romance D’ Tango brings to life stories of tango, love, passion, intimacy, bitterness and solitude.
“Performed by a cast of 10 superb dancers and six musicians, Romance D’Tango recreates dances from the contrasting worlds of the suburbs of Buenos Aires to the glamorous cafes of Paris where Tangomania took Europe by storm in the early 20th century.”
Myriam co-founded Danza Experimental de Cali and studied Philosophy at La Universidad del Valle gaining her degree in 1992.
In 1993 she left Columbia and came to Britain to pursue a three-year dance and choreography diploma at Lewisham College.
The film Evita was based on the story of Eva Peron, a poor village girl who became the wife of the Argentinian president.Source: Daily Post
