Jeffery Costello and Robert Tagliapietra: A dress for the book tour
Jeffery Costello and Robert Tagliapietra are the unlikely tough-looking duo behind a line of ultra-feminine dresses.
“Our dresses do have a delicate edge,” Tagliapietra said. “I guess it’s funny that we’re burly.”
The designers and the design studio may be a little rough around the edges, but the dresses are flawlessly tailored.
The All-Jersey line has only been around a little more than a year, but it has already caught the eye of the fashion world.
“We’ve had some major stylists approach us,” Tagliapietra said. “I think slowly the name got passed around. We’ve recently just given a dress to Madonna for her book tour.”
The magazine Vogue features the designing duo in this month’s issue.
While they might sound like an overnight success story, the two have been designing since they moved to New York 10 years ago at the ages of 18.
“Somehow we started making clothes for celebrities and musicians, and it started getting more and more interesting,” Tagliapietra said. “Eventually, a collection evolved.”
Priced between $800 and $1,500, the hand-finished dresses are not cheap, but those who wear them say they are worth every cent.
“When you put on one of these dresses, you feel glamorous,” graphic designer Christine Lee said. “Transformed into another time period almost.”
