Madonna and Caresse Henry in new Billboard Nominations
Superstar Madonna‘s latest award nomination is set to upset her old pal Sir Elton John – she’s up for four tour gongs at Billboard‘s first ever Backstage Pass Awards.
The bespectacled rocker lambasted the Material Girl‘s performing when she was nominated for Best Live Act at last week’s (04OCT04) Q Music awards in London, saying, “Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay GBP75 to see them should be shot.”
But despite John’s allegations the sexy singer mimes, Madonna’s 2004 re-Invention tour is battling Prince‘s Musicology dates and Shania Twain‘s UP! concerts in the Top Tour category, and three other categories.
ReInvention has been nominated in Top Draw (Attendance), Top Touring Manager for Caresse Henry and Top Boxscore for Madonna’s gigs at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Billboard’s new awards have been set up to “honour the concert industry’s top artists and professionals for the year, based on the Billboard Boxscores chart”.
Other nominees include Linin Park, David Bowie, Harry Connik Jr, John Mayer, Sting, and Annie Lennox.
The winners will be announced at the Backstage Pass touring conference on 8-9 November (04) in New York’s Roosevelt Hotel.
