Madonna and Shabbat in the UK press
From The Sun:
Madonna is refusing to play Friday night gigs on her upcoming world tour because her religion forbids it.
Instead of dirty dancing at the end of the week, the singer will observe the Shabbat, the Jewish sabbath, and share a meal with her nearest and dearest.
Madge is well-known for her devotion to , an offshoot of Judaism.
She sports a red bracelet, a symbol of her belief, drinks special and has asked pals to call her Esther, her religious name.
But this is the first time she has let her faith play such a huge part in a career decision.
A friend of the star says: This shows just how much Madonna is influenced by Kabbalah.
She is completely focused on following her beliefs, no matter what lengths she has to go to.
Madonna‘s conversion has inspired a string of new disciples including hubby Guy Ritchie, Stella McCartney and Britney Spears.
She also based her children’s book The English Roses, launched last September, on Kabbalah stories.
Madonna’s first two UK dates on her Reinvention tour for August 18 and 19 at London’s Earls Court sold out within minutes.
She has since added four more dates later that month at Wembley Arena.
From 3AM , The Mirror
Madonna is proving just how devoted she is to Kabbalah by refusing to perform on Friday nights.
The mystical religion, based in Judaism, holds Friday nights as a holy time and, as a committed follower, Madge, 45, insists she won’t play any of the dates on her forthcoming world tour on that day.
Her publicist Liz Rosenberg confirms: “She is observing Shabbat on Friday evenings.”
So, not such a Material-istic girl after all…
