Madonna decides to keep Shabbat

Here’s how the Israeli press is dealing with the news of Madonna observing Shabbat on Friday evenings.

“Madonna has taken her commitment to Kabbala one step further by announcing this week that she would not be working on Friday nights anymore, in
observance of the Jewish Sabbath, according to a report in Britain’s Hello! magazine.

Hello! reported that from now on, Madonna would be observing Shabbat on Friday evenings. The report was confirmed by the megastar’s publicist.

The commitment to Shabbat will now mean no more Friday night concerts for the singer, who kicks off her Re-invention tour next month.

Madonna is one of several celebrities who have embraced Kabbalah, a semi-mystical form of Judaism. Other devotees include Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Elizabeth Taylor and Courtney Love.”
