Madonna for Music Hall of Fame?
A new TV show will crown the best bands and musicians of the past 50 years – and it doesn’t look like there’ll be a Pop Idol in sight!
According to the Daily Mirror, the six-week programme will honour the likes of The Beatles, David Bowie and Madonna as viewers vote for who they think should enter the Music Hall of Fame.
Each episode will focus on a specific decade from the 50s to the 90s until five winners are chosen.
An insider told the paper: “This will establish once and for all the names of the most cherished acts in music history.
“These people have shaped 20th century music and truly deserve to be honoured in a TV Hall of Fame. But it is sure to cause a huge debate among the true music lovers.”
To qualify acts must have released their first single no earlier than five years ago, which means Kylie and the Spice Girls can be nominated, but the Pop Idol winners are out of the running.
Jamie Theakston has landed a £350,000 deal to host the Channel 4 show, which is being made by Endemol, the same people who produce Big Brother.
The format is similar to one in America, where being in the Hall of Fame is considered to be one of the highest accolades for a musician.
If successful the series – to be launched next month – will become an annual event with five artists honoured each year.
