Madonna gets a Judy
The Pride International Film Festival (PIFF) is an international presentation of numerous gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual digital films and videos in the Philippines, and its advocacy of HIV/AIDS education will be promoted through film screenings and other events. This international event will also coincide with the festival’s presentation of the “Judy” Award to Madonna and PIFF’s “Lifetime Achievement & Distinction” Award to Sir Ian Mckellen.
The “Judy” award, named after the late Hollywood actress and singer Ms. Judy Garland, is presented by PIFF to the “Most Influential Woman in the Entertainment Industry”. Madonna, a universal name synonymous with “Material Girl” and “Music” has been an “Icon” of the diverse GLBT communities all over the world for the past few decades now.
She has excelled tremendously with her hit songs and albums since the 1980’s, not limiting to her Golden Globe winning role as “Evita” in the same movie title.
The events will take place at the Dream Theater, Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manilla on August 21-28, 2004.
The mission of the 2004 Pride International Film Festival (PIFF) is to help advocate HIV/AIDS education on awareness, prevention and care through film screenings of international shorts, documentaries, animations and features, plus the other events during the festival. The festival’s beneficiary is a non-profit organization fighting for HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and facilitating support responses for the needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS in the Philippines. Portion of the overall festival roceeds will be donated to this organization.
