Madonna Launches Mobile Storefront
In a milestone for the mobile content and entertainment industry, Madonna today announced the launch of the first artist-driven Web-based store to sell ringtones, images and other mobile content. The mobile store, powered by m-Qube, allows Madonna to reach her fans in the U.S. and Canada from her Web site, Madonna.com, by offering exclusive content that they can personalize their mobile devices with.
Madonna fans will be able to easily browse and purchase the artist’s content on Madonna.com or through their mobile device simply by providing their mobile number and handset type with charges going directly to their wireless bill. This makes finding and purchasing content much easier, quicker and convenient for consumers.
“Madonna sees the future of the music business tied intimately to the wireless space and doing this deal is the first step of many to utilize the robust capabilities of mobile phones,” said Caresse Henry, Madonna’s manager.
With this announcement, m-Qube recognizes the growing importance of ringtones as a legitimate entertainment product. m-Qube’s mobile storefront solution gives artists an exciting new channel to further monetize their talents in addition to helping them use the wireless channel to market directly to fans and encourage album sales while maintaining quality control and discouraging piracy of copyrighted music content.
“Being the company chosen by a music superstar of the stature of Madonna to distribute her digital content for the first time is a tremendous honor for us,” said Jeffrey Glass, CEO of m-Qube. “It validates our mobile storefront strategy and the importance of delivering high-quality content and premium, cross-carrier billing solutions to content owners. Our technology drives revenue for content owners because we make purchasing easy; content is just a few keystrokes away for consumers with mobile devices and the convenience of charges on their monthly carrier bill.” Source: www.symbianone.com/m-Qube
