Madonna: re-Invention Tour Sunrise, FL, July 28, 2004
“What a night! In-fuckin-creible! I got to the Office Depot Center at about 4:40 pm. I just sat around and waited… I wanted to be the first in, so I could get a program and so I could eat (I had forgotten to eat that day, I was so excited!). Did that, then went to my seat, and it was a GREAT seat! Such an amazing view of the stage and the action! Section 134, row 21, the first row on the Upper Lower level (the first row in the second half of the section). Met some nice people, blah blah blah, whatever, right?
At about 8:50 or 9:00 pm, the lights went all the way down. The crowd went wild (but not wild enough, they kinda sucked in my section).
• The Beast Within: Such a great intro, she really did a great job with it.
• Vogue: I got up; danced, realized I was the only one doing so in my section. I hated it! If you go to her concert STAND UP!!!!!! She, however, was INCREDIBLE! She really got into the dancing and “grooved” a lot during the show.
• Nobody Knows Me: This was when I realized that the audience was gonna be a problem. They didn?t have the energy. Madonna did amazingly despite this. She gave us what we came to see, a fantastic show! This song really got me into it.
• Frozen: A low point, but I was determined to not sit during the entire show, so I didn?t sit. She sang it flawlessly. She really showed off her pipes.
• American Life: She really got into this song and I felt it! Every note was so crystal clear and she really gave her message to the people.
• Express Yourself: She said something at the beginning like “That?s not good enough” (referring to the audience?s energy). But she gave us the performance flawlessly and I loved it. I was singing every word and feeling it!
• Burning Up: This is so much fun to sing along with. I?m so glad she decided to include this song.
• Material Girl: “I need you to help me with this song” she started, and later towards the end she said, “I told you I need you to help me! I?ll give you one more chance.” Yea, so the audience sucked, but she kept on going.
• Hollywood: Nice interlude. Enough said.
• Hanky Panky: The day before, my friend and I were driving around. I played her this song, and she really got into it. It was such an amazing performance. One of my favorites, actually! She did it flawlessly!
• Deeper And Deeper: Another low point, but I sang along with every word, and gave her what she was giving us, her all! While she was walking towards Siedah and Donna, she did this cute “come over here” gesture with her finger and had a very “seductive” face on her. Cute!
• Die Another Day: Finally, the audience sorta got into it! She was phenomenal and the dancing was unbelievable. I loved the tango.
• Lament: Beautiful. It was great how she really made that segment into a story.
• Bedtime Story: I actually like the video she shot, and I love what the dancers do on the swings. It?s really original!
• Nothing Fails: Half the floor sat down for this one, which, again, pissed me off, and quite clearly, her too. But I loved the performance, how it was so simple and pure, but gave you so much.
• Don?t Tell Me: “Why is this side all sitting down?!!?” Exactly my thoughts, but I loved the performance. The choreography was similar to DWT, (as you all probably know by now) but this time she was really getting into it.
• Like A Prayer: “This is a no sitting down song. You, please stand” FINALLY, the audience was screaming like they should have been the entire time! My section was also finally standing, for the most part.
• Mother And Father: A little low, but it was a nice “break” (even though I was determined to still stand).
• Imagine: If you go, please, please, please, watch the video screens. The images are just so touching!
• Into The Groove: The audience got even better! Even the old woman next to me was standing, which was sad because her son never even stood ONCE! But the performance was so so soooooooooooooooooooooooooo great! The dancing was, WOW!
• Papa Don?t Preach: Fun performance. It got the audience singing. Tonight was the “Kabbalists Do It Better” shirt.
• Crazy For You: “I?d like to dedicate this next song, to all my fans, who have stuck by me for the last twenty years! Thank you.” Everyone sang along and it was so great!
• Music: The crowd was now LOUDER than EVER! Screams filled the arena and everyone understood what it was all about, getting up and HAVING FUN!!!!!!!!!!
• Holiday: The screams didn?t die for this one. Instead, they grew! We were dancing, singing, and doing our thing (pun intended). I didn?t want it to end; it was so great! I wanted that moment to end forever. Just me, Madonna, and about 15,000 other people, singing, dancing, and having a good time, except for the guy that sat near me.
Again, the show ended with “Re-Invent Yourself.”
So the crowd was almost gagging at the beginning, but then understood what was supposed to be happening. We were supposed to get into it!
Highlights were Vogue, American Life, Burning Up, Hanky Panky, Die Another Day, Like A Prayer, Imagine… strike that, THE ENTIRE SHOW WAS THE HIGHLIGHT!
But Madonna was still AMAZING! I wish I could go again on the 29th. If anyone wants to donate money to a poor, broke, 16 year old, give me a jingle! Just kidding, but I do wish I could see it again. The DVD will have to suffice.
