Madonna’s ‘Reinvention’ Comes to CBS
Perhaps having exhausted all the ways it can use Michael Jackson to boost ratings, CBS will turn to another pop icon next season: Madonna.
The one-time Material Girl will star in a concert special for the network next season, CBS announced Wednesday. An airdate hasn’t been set.
CBS is planning a two-hour, live special for Madonna, although “live” in this post-Janet Jackson world probably means “delayed just long enough to bleep things.” Given Madonna’s reputation as a provocateur, it’s almost a sure bet that some sort of delay will be in place.
The special will come out of the singer’s “Reinvention” tour, which begins next week in Los Angeles. The show will feature songs from throughout her career, including “Papa Don’t Preach,” “Vogue” and “Express Yourself,” the network says.
Madonna’s last concert special aired on HBO in 2001, during her “Drowned World” tour.
