Maverick ‘Craving’ tome
“Madonna and Guy Oseary’s Maverick Films shingle has acquired the film rights to Elise Abrams Miller‘s debut novel “Star Craving Mad,” published in May by Warner Books. Book concerns a first-grade teacher at an exclusive Manhattan private school who falls for the father of the adorable new kid in class. Dad also happens to be a famous actor. Pic will be produced by Maverick inhouse producer Jay Polstein, along with Maverick partner Oseary and prexy Mark Morgan. “I think the film can be the decade’s ‘Shampoo‘ — a vivisection of class and celebrity as seen through the eyes of a not-so-innocent outsider,” Polstein said.
Maverick films in development include “Charlie Bartlett,” which Jay Roach is attached to direct for Fox Searchlight, and “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief,” based on the children’s book by Rick Riordan, for Fox 2000. In her hilarious debut novel reminiscent of The Nanny Diaries, Elise Abrams Miller explores the misadventures of an adorable, if celebrity-obsessed, private school teacher in Manhattan.Maddy Braverman is 30, single, and a teacher at an exclusive private school in Manhattan with a student roster that reads like the latest issue of Vanity Fair. Like most of America, Maddy is celebrity-obsessed, so when she hears that Lola Seabolt–the daughter of Hollywood “It” couple Nick and Shelby Seabolt–will be joining her class, she thinks she’s died and gone to heaven. She believes (like so many other women) that she’s madly in love with Nick. But when a broken arm requires Lola to be home-tutored, Maddy’s fantasy world takes a turn she never expected. Now it will take a little help from her students and her handsome teaching assistant James to bring her back down to earth…before she goes star craving mad.
