Maverick’s Guy Oseary pairs with Untitled Agency
Financial details were not disclosed, but the deal will closely align Untitled, which boasts such clients as Ashton Kutcher, Naomi Watts, Hilary Swank and Paris Hilton, with Guy Oseary‘s Maverick Records and Maverick Films, which he co-owns with pop superstar Madonna.
“My entry into the management business is long overdue,” Oseary said. “I was waiting for the right partners and the right company.”
Untitled is owned by Jason Weinberg and Stephanie Simon.
“We look forward to working together in the full-service representation of actors, writers, directors and producers, as well as expanding our efforts in such areas as branding and film and television production,” Weinberg said.
Under Maverick Films, Oseary has produced the film “Agent Cody Banks” and its sequel for MGM; he is currently producing “My Sassy Girl” for DreamWorks. Maverick is also producing a miniseries based on the 1980s for NBC, and is the executive producer of the TV show “Last Call with Carson Daly.”
Oseary has also written a book titled “On the Record,” which features in-depth interviews with more than 150 music artists and executives; it will be published by Penguin in the fall of 2004.
Maverick Records, which is a joint venture with Warner Music, is in the midst of a legal fight with its corporate partner. Warner and Maverick have sued each other over money and how to end the partnership.
The partnership was formed about 11 years ago, and was successful for many years. Warner has contended that Maverick has lost $66 million since 1999, a figure that Maverick claims was computed through gimmicky accounting. The joint venture terminates at the end of the year.
