Melissa Etheridge, the openly gay singer that on September 22, 2003, tied the knot in Los Angeles with bombshell actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, commented the Madonna/Britney kiss to the Dallas Voice newspaper.

Q: Didn’t the Britney-Madonna kiss test the cultural waters? And isn’t she the most powerful lesbian in showbiz?
Melissa: Oh, you must mean my good friend Ellen DeGeneres. I don’t think the people who make the wheels move around in the music business are ready to put that song out [Secret Agent] as a single. The girl-on-girl thing just scares them too much. Now, the Britney-Madonna kiss was fine because it was titillating. But when it’s the real thing, they just get scared.
