I was lucky enough to see Madonna again last night, I’d previously seen her opening night at Earls Court, although last night I was in the pit, courtesy of MTV!
It was a really surreal experience and felt like I was more part of the show than simply watching it. As the lights went down, I saw Madonna walking down a corridor towards the stage and then stretching underneath the stage in preparation for her grand entrance!
The Beast Within was coming to an end as dry ice flooded the stage, the trap door she uses opened and she got in position as the opening strains of Vogue could be heard
pure Madge-ic!!!
As she was hydraulically elevated into the air I was surprised at just how small she is. I know everyone says that about famous people but she really was tiny. Her body looked amazing but facially she seemed more her 46 years than 26 like some newspapers have been saying, ouch!
The show rocked as usual but every time she spoke to the audience it was barely audible from the pit, it was all rather muffled. During American Life she came over to the pit and shook a few of our hands. Then at the end of Deeper & Deeper she took off her black head band and dangled it just above our heads, teasing us into thinking she’d give it to one of us, she didn’t!
We were in the right pit (on the left when facing the stage) and she definitely made more of an effort with us than the other pit. During Don’t Tell Me, she came over and danced just 2 feet from me, I could have easily grabbed her but resisted. She then leant right over me and put her hand out, only then did I reach up to hold her hand awesome, she then winked at me and carried on with the dance routine.
Overall it was an amazing night and another faultless performance from Her Madgesty. I noticed some of the fans in the pit had 3 different coloured wristbands on and had actually been in the pit several times before. They were hanging around outside on the off chance of getting in. It is at Alison’s deiscretion (Alison is a manger with Clear Channel, the Reinvention Tour’s promoter).
However, I found it sort of odd that you would go to each and every show. Don’t get me wrong, I think Madonna is absolutely fantastic and I’ve been a fan since seeing her on Live Aid back in 1985, but I know that she would want her fans to do something positive with their lives and not to just obsess over her, follow her from city to city or hang around outside her London home.
Like the message goes at the shows finale- Re-invent yourself‘, just a bit of food for thought.
So thank you Madonna for an awesome night and thank you also to MTV, cheers!
Thanks to Niall for sharing his experience with the Tribe.
