Serenaded By Madonna – A fan review of New Jersey
MadonnaTribe reader Michelle had a great time at both New Jersey re-INVENTION shows and here comes her review.
“I had such an AMAZING time that it has taken me a few days to put my thoughts into proper order.
I had for course read all the spoilers and reviews from the press as well as my fellow fans, so I kind of had an idea of what the show was like. It sounded like Madonna was really trying to reach out to all her fans and let us know how much she really does love & appreciate us. I wasn’t that crazy about the ‘older song’selections, mostly because those are the ones you still hear on the radio, (boy was I wrong!) It was so incredible to hear almost everyone in the arena sing them with her. The only thing I did not do was to listen to any recordings of the show. I am so glad I didn’t, because I feel as if I was serenaded by my idol – my queen Madonna!
I won’t go into all the details of what she did, or didn’t do since it’s already been posted. But I did infact attend both New Jersey shows, I also had 2 completely different perspectives of this AMAZING show.
July 7th – I had tix for section 126, about ¾ of the way back on the right side of the stage. Good enough seats,
I could see the entire stage including all video screens. As stated, this is a massive show, there is so much to look at that you’re not really sure where to look, afraid you might miss something. I could see Madonna and make out all of her moves, but wasn’t able to make out her defining features. It was an AWESOME show and Madonna was in top form.
July 8th – This night my tix were for section 111, right next to the stage on the left hand side. I could not see the large screens that opens up to revel the stage. In fact the only screens I could see was the small one on the left above the crowd and the large one on the left once opened. But what I could see?. the one, the only MADONNA! Backstage, getting ready to wow us again. I started screaming her name and soon everyone around me was screaming too! I was less then 10 yards from her when she sang “Crazy For You“. (Dedicated to all her fans “who haven’t sat down!”) I could clearly see her sweaty, defined muscular body. And during “Don’t Tell Me“, the ‘skate-boarder’ was right in front of me (in the area around the stage) dancing the steps with the dancers on stage. He then joined the people in the pit for “Like A Prayer” (if you missed his part of the show, you would have thought he was just another fan.) During “Papa Don’t Preach” I could see Madonna and her dancers smiling and having fun while doing the ‘ring around the rosie’. Again, because I was unable to see the entire stage and most of the video screens, I was able this night to watch just the stage, Madonna and her dancers up-close and personal. Again she was in top form. It was one of the MOST AMAZING nights of my life!
I felt “serenaded” because of the songs she chose to sing. Hearing these words come from her made me feel so special and proud to be a fan. Here is a break down of those defining moments?
The Beast Within – “for the time is near – I am coming soon”
Nobody Knows Me – “nobody knows me, like you know me”
Frozen – “you hold the key”
American Life – (love this ‘metal version’) “do I have to change my name?” “NO!” is the loud reply from the audience
Express Yourself – “don’t go for second best baby”
Burning Up “I’m burning up for your love”
Material Girl – “experience has made me rich, now they’re after me”
Deeper & Deeper – a true serenaded aside from “Crazy For You”
Die Another Day – “I think I’ll die another day – it’s not my time to go”
Lament – this whole song is wonderful and full of feeling.
Nothing Fails – (my personal fav) “I’m in love with you”
Don’t Tell Me – the extended end “don’t you ever, ever, ever, tell me to stop”
Like A Prayer – (brought the house down!) “I hear you call my name, and it feels like home”
Mother Father/Intervention – so personal
Imagine – wonderful song, sang beautifully. (melted my lighter) 😉
Into the Groove – “I want to know you in a special way”
Papa Don’t Preach – again she asks “do I have to change my name?” same reply
Crazy for You – this song speaks for it’s self. (glad to say I was NOT sitting down either night)
Music/Holiday would NOT be a Madonna show without them – perfect closers to a perfect show!
My ONE & ONLY complaint?. Some New Jersey show goers really “SUCK, (period)”
I am proud to say that I did NOT sit down once either night, sang and danced every song and I screamed my head off
$600+++ in the hole, 7 hour of sleep, 16 hours of work, 2 GLORIOUS nights with Madonna and a serious case of laryngitis (3 days later and I can hardly talk above a whisper.) All in 48 hours.
Madonna was WELL WORTH it all. I wish I could do it all again!
I hope you all enjoy the show as much as I did!”
Special thanks to Michelle
