Madonna will sing a song from the musical Evita in her re-invention tour.
The song is “The Lament” and in the film is the one she sings almost acapella on her dying bed.
The song, that has been for a long time on the set list, is performed in a very powerful moment of the show highlighting the touching and beautiful lyrics by Sir Tim Rice.
For those of you, who are not familiar with Evita, here are the lyrics of The Lament:
THE LAMENT
Words: Sir Tim Rice
Music: Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber
The choice, was mine and mine completely.
I could have any prize that I desired.
I could burn with the splendor of the brightest fire.
Or else, or else I could choose time.
Remember, I was very young then.
And a year was forever and a day.
So what use could fifty, sixty, seventy be.
I saw the lights and I was on my way…
And how I lived,
how they shone
but how soon the lights…
were gone.
