Story of a Madonna bustier
Frederick’s of Hollywood created the first “Bra Museum” in the world inside their flagship store in early 1986. The museum intended as a celebration of the people who glamorized lingerie had a “Lingerie Hall of Fame” which featured among others, boxers by Tom Hanks and Madonna’s bustier from her Who’s that girl World tour designed by Marlene Stewart.
Unfortunately during the Los Angeles riots in 1992, thieves stole $200,000 worth of Frederick’s of Hollywood’s best lingerie including Madonna‘s purple bustier with gold tasseled cups from her video Open Your Heart.
A reward of $1,000 was offered to have the piece back but as the garment was never returned, Madonna herself donated another bustier to Frederick’s in exchange for a donation to a charity providing free mammograms.
