Anyone in the US who ever wore gloves could probably trace them to Gloversville. Between 1880 and 1950, the local industry made 90 percent of the country’s gloves.
Daniel Storto, is today the only person in Gloversville who still makes gloves by hand, in a tiny store window on Main Street.
He has made gloves for Whoopi Goldberg, Jessica Lange, Diane Keaton and Goldie Hawn. He recreated gloves for the exhibit on Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
And remember the gloves Madonna wore when she kissed Britney Spears? Mr. Storto made them, at Madonna‘s request.
