The Art of Versace in Finland

In view of the new, forthcoming, collaboration between Madonna and Versace here’s a reminder of the major exhibition devoted to the work of Gianni Versace (1946-1997): The Art and Craft of Gianni Versace at
the Finnish Design Museum. This same exhibit attracted over 300.000 visitors at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in Autumn 2002.

The Design Museum Exhibition will be the largest presentation of Gianni Versace’s fashion and design as well as comprehensive design projects, including the latest fashion collections, works of interior design, porcelain and glass.

The Art and Craft of Gianni Versace will feature over 130 outfits and theatre costumes and the most impressive pieces by Donatella Versace. The exhibition explores the life’s work of one of the world’s leading fashion designers over a period of twenty years. It presents an original and versatile artist with a great personality and tells of the mastery of craftsmanship in his work as well as of his innovative technological developments in his quest for beauty.

Gianni Versace is known for his original luxurious style .He was also famous for dressing the world’s leading celebrities and the exhibition includes beautiful outfits worn by Princess Diana, Elton John, Madonna and Courtney Love among others, and the memorable safety-pin dress designed for Elizabeth Hurley.

A documentary on the colourful life of Gianni Versace will be included in the exhibition.

Versace is one of the world’s leading fashion houses and is still a family company. Since 1997, its head designer has been Donatella, Gianni’s sister, who has been responsible for leading the company into the 21st century. Under her direction and with designs bearing her signature, Versace has maintained its position as one of the world’s mostly highly valued and most interesting fashion houses. Also on show are several dresses and gowns from Donatella Versace’s most recent collections, including the “Jungle print” dress worn by Jennifer Lopez.
